BGCA and Southface are excited to grow the Nonprofit Energy & Water Efficiency (NEWE) Initiative partnership! Launched in 2015 after the successful Energy & Water Efficiency Pilot, the NEWE Initiative will grant approximately $1,000,000 in utility reduction grants to Boys and Girls Clubs nationwide. The program’s ultimate goals are to reduce club utility expenses by 20 percent annually and to improve conditions in existing facilities to better support BGCA’s mission.
In the first quarter of 2017, the program will select 10-12 clubs to receive an energy and water assessment. Based on the findings of the assessment, 8-10 of those clubs will be selected to receive up to $75,000 to implement recommended high-impact energy and water efficiency projects. Note that a 1:1 match is required by each club, bringing the total value of the improvements up to $150,000. Grantees will be selected based on the following evaluation criteria:
Clear and compelling articulation of leadership commitment to energy and water efficiency.
Opportunity to reduce annual utility costs for the identified facility, based on utility data benchmarks and the information entered into the required Energy Star Portfolio Manager Account (ESPM).
Ability to follow-through on all activities described for the Green Project Champion.
Opportunity to take advantage of local efficiency incentives from government agencies and utilities.
